Most people who lose weight through diet alone regain the majority of it within two years. This is not a lack of effort. The body treats weight loss as a threat and responds by increasing the hormones that drive hunger, particularly GLP-1 and GIP. These hormones signal to the brain that you need to eat more and store more.
For some people, no amount of calorie counting or meal planning will override those signals. That is where medical treatment can help. The medications available today work by targeting those exact hormones, reducing appetite at a biological level rather than relying purely on restriction.
Diet and lifestyle changes still matter. But for many patients, having the right medical support makes those changes far more achievable and far more likely to last.
Our weight loss service is not a prescription vending machine. Before any treatment is supplied, our pharmacist carries out a proper face-to-face assessment. In 2025, the GPhC made clear that a questionnaire alone is not sufficient for supplying weight loss injectables. We follow that guidance.
Mounjaro is a once-weekly injectable treatment containing tirzepatide. It works by targeting two hormones simultaneously GLP-1 and GIP which regulate both appetite and blood sugar. This dual action makes it one of the most effective weight loss medications currently licensed in the UK.
In clinical trials, patients using Mounjaro lost on average up to 22.5% of their body weight over 72 weeks. That is roughly 20 to 25kg for a person weighing 100kg. Results vary by individual, but the clinical evidence is strong.
Mounjaro is self-injected once a week, using a pre-filled pen. Doses start low and are increased gradually to reduce the chance of side effects. Most people begin on 2.5mg and move up to a maintenance dose over several weeks.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, reduced appetite. These are usually most noticeable in the first few weeks and tend to improve as your body adjusts.
Pregnant women, those breastfeeding, people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, or patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. Your pharmacist will check all contraindications at assessment.
Wegovy contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that reduces appetite by mimicking the hormone released after eating. It tells the brain you are full, slows stomach emptying, and reduces cravings between meals.
Clinical trials showed an average weight loss of around 15% of body weight over 68 weeks for patients using Wegovy alongside diet and lifestyle changes. It is the most established injectable weight loss treatment available in the UK, having been accessible to patients since 2023.
Like Mounjaro, Wegovy is self-injected once a week using a pre-filled pen. The dose starts at 0.25mg and is increased gradually over 16 weeks to a maintenance dose of 2.4mg.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, headache, fatigue. Most side effects occur early in treatment and reduce over time.
Pregnant women, those breastfeeding, people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, or patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. Full contraindication check carried out at assessment.
Orlistat is an oral capsule taken three times a day with meals. It works differently from the injectables. Rather than affecting appetite hormones, orlistat prevents the body from absorbing about one-third of the fat from the food you eat. That unabsorbed fat passes through the digestive system and is excreted.
It is a well-established treatment that has been available in the UK for many years. For people who prefer not to use injections, or who do not meet the eligibility criteria for injectables, orlistat is a clinically supported alternative.
For orlistat to work well, it needs to be combined with a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet. The medication works with your diet, not instead of it. Eating high-fat meals while taking orlistat significantly increases the chance of unpleasant digestive side effects.
Oily or fatty stools, urgent or frequent bowel movements, oily spotting on underwear, flatulence. These effects are more noticeable after high-fat meals and reduce when fat intake is managed.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with chronic malabsorption syndrome or cholestasis. Orlistat interacts with several medications including ciclosporin, warfarin, and some antiretrovirals. Full medication review carried out at assessment.
Medication works best when it is supported by real changes to eating habits and activity levels. As part of our weight loss service, our pharmacist will provide written guidance on dietary changes that are practical and sustainable.
We do not hand you a rigid meal plan and send you home. We talk through what is realistic for your lifestyle and help you build habits that support your treatment. For some patients, we will also signpost to local services or digital tools that offer additional support.
Eligibility depends on your BMI, medical history, and current medications. Book a free 20-minute consultation to find out. No obligation to proceed. Mounjaro suits ages 18–84, Wegovy suits ages 18–74.

Weight loss injectables are among the most counterfeited medicines currently circulating in the UK. In 2025, the MHRA carried out a significant crackdown on unlicensed online suppliers. Products seized included fake Mounjaro and Wegovy pens that contained little to no active ingredient and in some cases, potentially harmful substances.
Buying from an unregistered online source carries real clinical risk. You cannot verify the authenticity of the product, you have no clinical oversight, and there is no pharmacist checking whether the medication is safe for you specifically.
If you have already purchased weight loss injections online and have concerns about their authenticity, please speak to us or contact the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.

No. Book directly with us. Our pharmacist carries out the clinical assessment and supplies your medication in the same appointment where appropriate. If there are complex medical factors, we will always recommend bringing your GP in.
Both are weekly injections but they work differently. Mounjaro targets two hormones, GLP-1 and GIP. Wegovy targets GLP-1 only. Trials suggest Mounjaro produces greater average weight loss, but both work well. The right choice depends on your clinical profile, which our pharmacist will talk through with you.
Most patients notice a drop in appetite within the first few weeks. Visible weight loss usually starts within four to six weeks. Bigger results tend to show over three to six months, with the full benefit seen at 12 months or more. Results vary from person to person.
Yes, in many cases. Both Mounjaro and Wegovy can be used with type 2 diabetes, and Mounjaro is also licensed as a diabetes treatment. If you take diabetes medication beyond metformin, our pharmacist will refer you to your GP before anything is supplied. This keeps you safe and avoids any risk of interactions or low blood sugar.
Weight loss medication is not a fix on its own. Stopping without keeping up lifestyle changes often leads to some weight coming back. Our pharmacist will set out a clear plan for this before you start. If treatment is not working as expected, we will review your options and refer to your GP if needed.
Mounjaro and Wegovy are only available on the NHS through specialist weight management services for patients who meet set criteria. They are not available on a standard NHS prescription from a community pharmacy right now. Orlistat may be available on the NHS in some cases. Our pharmacist will clarify what applies to you at your consultation
