Book online or call us; let us know if you are immunosuppressed or HIV-positive as your dose schedule will differ.
Our pharmacist checks your medical history, allergies, and current medications before the injection; you wait 15 minutes afterwards as a precaution.
One dose if aged 9 to 24, two doses if 25 or over, three doses if immunosuppressed; we give you a written record and remind you when your next dose is due.
HPV is a group of over 200 related viruses, most spread through skin-to-skin sexual contact. Many types clear up without causing harm. A smaller number persist and lead to cancer.
HPV types 16 and 18 cause around 70% of cervical cancers in the UK. They also cause a significant proportion of anal, oropharyngeal, vulvar, vaginal, and penile cancers. Types 6 and 11 are the main cause of genital warts.
Gardasil 9 protects against nine HPV types: 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58, covering the vast majority of HPV-related cancers and genital warts.
The vaccine is prophylactic only. It prevents future infection. It does not treat existing human papillomavirus, existing lesions, or genital warts already present. Vaccination also does not replace cervical screening. Women should continue attending smear tests as recommended.
We use Gardasil 9, the same 9-valent HPV vaccine used in the NHS routine adolescent programme in England. Each dose is 0.5ml, given as an intramuscular injection into the upper arm. The vaccine does not contain live virus and cannot cause HPV infection. If you previously received the original 4-valent Gardasil but did not complete your course, completion with Gardasil 9 may be appropriate. Speak to our pharmacist, who will review your vaccination record and advise on the best next step.
The number of doses depends on your age and immune status. Ages 9 to 24 require one dose. Ages 25 and over require two doses, given at Day 0 and Month 6 to 24. HIV-positive or immunosuppressed patients of any age require three doses at Day 0, Month 1, and Month 4. If your course is interrupted, do not restart. Resume at the next dose and allow the correct interval.
The service is available from age 9 with no upper age limit. Adults of any age can be vaccinated privately. People already exposed to some HPV types can still benefit, as the vaccine protects against the types they have not yet encountered. No GP referral is needed. People who partially completed an NHS HPV course can complete it here privately.
Some people are eligible for a free HPV vaccination through the NHS. If you fall into one of the groups below, you should access it through the appropriate NHS route first before paying for a private vaccination.

Most people associate HPV vaccination with cervical cancer. But HPV causes cancer in men too.
Anal cancer is linked to HPV in around 90% of cases. Oropharyngeal cancers affecting the throat and soft palate are now more commonly caused by HPV than by tobacco or alcohol, particularly in men. HPV also causes penile cancer and genital warts.
The NHS extended its HPV programme to boys in Year 8 in 2019. The GBMSM programme covers men who have sex with men aged up to and including 45 through sexual health clinics. But many men aged over 25 not accessing sexual health services have never been vaccinated.
Private HPV vaccination at Yatton Pharmacy is available to men of any age. The protection Gardasil 9 offers against HPV-related cancers and genital warts applies equally to men and women.
Private, pharmacist-led HPV vaccination for anyone aged 9 and over in Yatton and surrounding villages.
